Hey, hey ! Happy Friday Eve!
It's the fit for me, not the size.
Earlier this year. Jeff had to help me get out of a dress I purchased at Kohl's. Thank God I didn't try it on at the store. I probably would have ripped it trying to get out of it by myself.
I got the dress on but couldn't get it off because of my strong & juicy back. Lol, it was not budging. I was busting out of it.
We had a good laugh. 😄🤣 Also, my damn booty was hanging out of the dress. 🍑😆 We Talked about how far I have come with my mindset & body image over the years. My back and my booty were just too great for the dress.
I took the dress back. Found something that FIT my body wonderfully.
Old me would have spiraled. Would have done the mean ole negative talk. I would have restricted & deprived. Started another diet on Monday. So on and so forth. #IYKYK
I recently returned like six swimsuits that didn't fit. I returned em, shrugged my shoulders, and said “well, I shall keep looking”.
No emotional attachment. Those suits just didn't work for my body.
All that to say...
1) Wear clothes that fit. Clothes that fit you now, even if you have body goals.
Being uncomfortable in clothes that you don't like won't get you to your goal any sooner.
Get yourself a few pieces for the current body so that you feel and look good.
It doesn't mean you're giving in or giving up. That's a piss poor attitude and won't get you anywhere. The way you talk and think about yourself matters so much. You can't hate your way to "goal body!"
You're living your life now. Life is too short not too. Don't wait until you hit a goal to dress well, to dress better.
2) Remember this... Muscle weighs something, and it wears/feels different in clothes. Most clothing companies don't design clothes with muscle in mind. Remember this STRONG friend, the next time you go shopping!
If you are a woman that lifts and has muscle... your pants will fit differently in the glutes and thighs. If you have a good amount of muscle or want to gain muscle in your back and boulder shoulders, you can expect shirts to fit tighter in those areas.
I upsize a lot for shirts, and if it's really oversized, I'll get the clothing altered.
You may weigh more on the scale than you thought. The scale weighs you entirely... muscle, fat, bones, organs, etc. Muscle holds water and glycogen, which gives muscles a full-toned look. Water contributes to overall scale weight... it's not fat; it's water.
If you say you want muscle, tone, etc., you'll have to switch your mindset from weighing whatever arbitrary number you have in your mind. You'll probably weigh more than you thought. And that's okay. Well, for me, it is. I hope so for you too. Weight is just weight.
3) Circling back to wearing clothes that fit... Shop for the fit, not the size. Shop for how clothes feel. Not the size. Take several sizes into the dressing room if you are shopping in person or order multiple sizes, and return the ones that don't work.
You deserve to feel and look good on your journey!
