Hey, hey, STRONG friend!
I have lost count of the number of women who have said, “I want to look like I lift” to me over my career as a Fitness professional.
I've even talked about this with a lady in the produce area at the Grocery store. 😆
Over the years, I have had many muscle-building convo’s in the most random places - in line waiting for the
bathroom, on the plane, at a festival waiting in line for food, and just about every social gathering I attend, just to name a few!
Anywho…
She noticed my
shoulders & arms. She opened the conversation with, “I like your arms; what do you do”? I told her... I lift weights, eat enough food to support muscle growth, and I've been training the right way and consistently for years. She proceeded to tell me how she has been working out.
You guessed it, working out, but not
training. She listed off a bit of what she does in the gym. It mainly was mostly isolation work and more cardio based exercise than actual lifting - real strength training.
I gave her a quick summary of the correct way to train to achieve more muscle tone and strength. I hope it didn't go in one ear and out the
other.
Most women have been working out for years with nothing to show for it.
I know you're committed. You want to be STRONG. You
love going to the gym, doing your workouts, cardio, etc.
But you're not seeing the fruits of your efforts! After all that working out, you look the same and haven't gotten STRONGER.
Maybe you're that woman?
Maybe you got this. Perhaps you don't.
But, if you don't, I got you.
Sis, one of the reasons is that you are just exercising; we need to be training to look
like we lift.
Working out/exercising in itself goes way beyond the aesthetics of course.
There are a plethora of benefits that could fill an
entire email plus some.
But when it comes to specific performances goals, aesthetics goals, etc. there has to be some structure, direction, proper programming, recovery, etc.
Exercising is riding your bike, doing 100 burpees (lol, shoot me now), crushing your Orange Theory workout, Body Pump Class, Bootcamps, etc.
And if you enjoy it, and
you're getting the results that you're happy with, Then keep on keeping on! That's awesome!
This is fine; it gets you moving, and you're working your muscles to a degree.
You're probably fitter; conditioning is on point because those classes are primarily cardio with a bit of actual lifting.
However, you don't see your physique
changing like you thought you would. Am I right, or Am I right? You're just getting better at exercising.
Why?
Group fitness classes fall short on really helping you build substantial muscle and strength. They don't use heavy enough or challenging weights. The muscle needs stimulus that is challenging enough to make the muscle adapt.
You'll need a progressive strength training program that focuses on building muscle and increasing your strength!
This is
where training, not just exercising, comes in!
Exercising doesn't have much of a progressive overload component that lends itself to muscle or strength gains - the classes don't, and if they do, they're not designed to build muscle.
We have to train in a way that builds muscle mass and increases strength.
With
Strength TRAINING- your program should be repetitive, structured, and have a progressive overload component.
If you want to look like you lift, building muscle and strength is key to physique change!
If you're ready to look like you lift and make a substantial change in your physique after all these years of working out, STRONGER Way is for you!
