Hey, hey, STRONG friend! Happy Monday!
Ever step on the scale, see it jump up, and think, “I gained fat overnight!”?
Spoiler: You didn’t gain 5 lbs of fat overnight. That’s not how it works!
Let’s unpack this!
That number? It’s your total body weight (scale weight) accounts for our—muscles, bones, organs, as well as water
(about 60% of you!), and yeah, fat too. Just to name a few!
Those daily ups and downs aren’t fat—they’re from stuff like:
- Water retention (post-workout or dehydration)
- Hormones (looking at you, menstrual cycle)!!
- Stress, rough night’s sleep, or post lift inflammation
- Even yesterday’s carbs (they hold 3-4x their weight in water!)
Real fat gain takes work—3,500 extra
calories above your maintenance for just 1 lb. Five pounds? That’s 17,500 calories in a day. Not happening, right?
So next time the scale spikes which is NORMAL, It's normal for our weight to fluctuate, so take a deep breath. It’s just a snapshot, not the full picture—and definitely not your worth.
The scale is just one data point—it doesn’t tell the entire story of your journey.
So, STRONG friend, in addition measuring scale weight
(overall trend going down), track your measurements, take progress photos, and monitor your strength training progress. Also, check in with how your clothes are fitting!
Have a great week! Thanks for reading!
In Strength & to your Success!
Much Love
