don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

Hi

Do you let perfect be the enemy of good? I know I have, and still do at times - it’s a work in progress, that’s for sure. No one is perfect, I’d be lying if I told you I never overeat or eat too much of something. I can remember a time when I had to hit my macro's- carbs, fat, protein right down to the gram or ounce or else it would drive me insane. Being off a gram or two or even three was not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.  Phew.... that was so cray cray and a mind warp. It's all about what you do on a consistent basis overtime, not just at one meal or eating several pieces of candy.

Did you eat to much Valentines Day Candy or too many pieces of candy, and now all you can think about is working it off or slashing your calories really low?  Don’t do it, it’s an endless cycle that you will never win.

Perfection never wins - what does win is Consistency. Yeah, I said it! Consistency, and that’s no secret. Everything we want to achieve has to be met with consistency, we have to work at it. That doesn’t mean we need to be perfect—line all our ducks up in a row. We just have to “do the things” to meet our goals on a regular basis and that looks different for everyone. Celebrate the small wins- for example maybe you used to eat the whole box of chocolates and this time around you ate 3 out of the 12 pieces and were satisfied - that’s a Win! That takes daily practice and gratitude, not perfection. We are human, and there will moments where we eat too much of something, and that’s life.

Meet yourself where you are, because I sure will meet you right where you are. That’s self compassion!

It’s now Thursday, and you still have some left because you consciously and mindfully chose to eat 1 piece from the box every day to keep you satisfied and not deprived -  #SatisfiactionEats.

Consistency trumps perfection! In order for perfection to work we need rules- because how else can you be perfect. Usually the folks that are perfect have insanely rigid lists pertaining to their nutrition. The downside to this perfection is the downfall when a person messes up because they slipped up and ate one piece of candy. In comes the flood gates of misery hell and they enter binge city or they shame themselves. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Now, what good is any of that? Don’t get me wrong, I know some people do like the black or white way—well, more power to them. But for those of us that like gray matter—life will be much more sweet when we can enjoy and like how we eat!

Lastly, consistently work on the things that help you live a healthy lifestyle. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. Let good be good enough and love yourself through the process!
