have your cake it and eat too!

Hi

Good morning, Happy Friday! How are you today? I hope this email finds you healthy and happy!

So, I’ve been talking nutrition and I’ll be doing it for the month of May over on my Facebook page and here. I’ll be sharing tidbits of my nutrition while I’m traveling. You’ll be able to see exactly how I structure my eating and how I eat all foods in moderation. Like I said before, I use my #AMEN Nutrition guide on a regular. I get the Big Rocks covered no matter what day is. It’s simple, sane, and effective.

The last two weeks, I have been away from home traveling to visit family in Michigan. There was a time when I would stress about eating. Questions like this would arise: Will I gain weight, will I be able to work out, oh and where can I get clean foods (food is neither clean or bad) - check this blog out!  etc… I used to drive myself crazy worrying about nothing. All foods can be eaten in moderation as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Over the years – learning about the body, nutrition, and fitness my outlook has shifted in a major away. I have learned so much and the knowledge that I have learned, I love share with all my ladies.  I also encourage my clients and others to navigate and investigate nutrition for yourself.  Not to just go with xyz diet because it claims to be the next holy grail!

The ideology of clean eating has caused a lot of people to have eating disorders. Ever heard the term orthorexia? It’s an obsession with eating foods that one considers healthy. Also a medical condition in which the sufferer systematically avoids specific foods in the belief that they are harmful. In my experience, it has caused many people problems, and even caused lack of nutrients that we need. I, myself, would only eat certain foods that were deemed healthy- it did become a bit obsessive and obnoxious and downright not healthy.

We have to eat well- nutritionally sound, as well as treats and what not. Banning foods and being on the constant diet cycle is not a lifestyle, nor is it sustainable.  Here are a couple of tips to keep your nutrition “on plan” while traveling:

1. Use the #AMEN Protocol. Protein, water, veggies, and mindfulness, all day, every day.

2. While traveling, we do eat out – and when we do, it’s not all salads and greens.  You can order the food you want, then either split it or have half boxed for later.  We just did this yesterday – ate at a hometown favorite, Arnies, then took food home for later.  No busting your nutrition plan, and no deprivation.

3. If you’re eating out – you can choose alcohol, dessert, or the bread appetizer….just don’t do all three.  That bread appetizer isn’t banned – but ever notice that when you eat it, you’re full by the time you get your meal?  Have a drink or dessert – which ever one satisfies you the most.  If you have a drink – take a bite of dessert for the taste and enjoyment, but don’t kill a whole piece of chocolate fudge cake!  Moderation in all – you can have it, just don’t eat all of everything.

4. Move – get some movement in every day.  It can be a walk, a 20 minute KIST workout, or a full gym session – it’s up to you, just get some movement in!

Always remember to keep things simple, sane, and not complicated!
