what can your body do?

Hi

When we focus on what our

bodies can do

instead of

how it looks,

amazing things happen!

Can it climb 6 flights of stairs?

Can you carry your groceries in, in one load?

Can you run around with your children?

Can you pick up a coach with your significant other to rearrange your furniture?

Can you get up down from the floor with no issues?

Can you hover over the toilet to hold yourself up while using it?

That's just few of the many questions that you should take a look at. It's all fine and dandy to have weight loss goals, or as I like to steer your thoughts towards fat loss goals, shoot, I wouldn’t mind dropping a few pounds myself. In the grand scheme of things, fat is what you want to lose overall, not the scale weight. But that's another subject.

I’ve been pretty active this trip. If you didn’t know, I have been visiting my in laws in Alaska! Such a beautiful place. I have been soaking it all in, loving every minute of it. Back to the active part – I’ve been thinking about the importance of health as opposed to aesthetic (physique) goals. I’m not saying they aren’t important – cause I know we all want to look and feel our best. I believe a lot of ourselves can be lost in the process, especially if our only reason for fitness is to obtain low body fat or a certain number on the scale.

My lovely husband captured this photo in Kodiak, AK at Fort Abercrombie.

While physical, aesthetic goals are great, another area that we need to pay attention to is actual ability.  The ability to go up the stairs, take a long walk or hike, pick something up, or even open the jar without a guy around….these things are more important that physique goals!  I’ve been reminded several times during this trip of the simple joy of mobility, and how quickly it can leave us!  Enjoy building the physical abilities that come from training – they make everyday life easier!  Yesterday, it was taking a strenuous 7 mile hike that put me within 25 yards of wild Dall Sheep, today it was maneuvering the zip lines with ease and grace while others struggled a little bit with it.  These things are physical abilities that have come from my training – and it makes everything easier!  Yes, you may want aesthetic changes, but their importance pales in comparison to the ability to actually “do” stuff!  What are you doing that your training makes easier?

Having a good ole time on the zipline!
If your not afraid of heights and never done this before it's a must!

Lastly, you are beautiful and you have a purpose. Your body is more than your body weight. If you have lost hope or focus in your fitness journey, remember this!  Focus on the performance, ability, and strength and the aesthetics will follow.  Stop trying to be smaller, to be less, and focus on being more – more able, more strong, more fit!  Finally, grant yourself the same compassion you grant everyone else in your daily endeavors.

See you next time, have an amazing weekend!

Yours in Health and Happiness,
Candace
