The other day, I drove back from Pensacola to Texas. It was quite the feat. It’s been raining the last several days throughout the area. Louisiana got hit pretty hard, and now they have a lot of flooding and road closures.
Everything was going well until I got into the Lafayette area. Google maps disappointed me. GM hadn’t picked up all the road closures. So, I drove to the “so called” available roads, only to arrive and they were in fact closed. You can imagine the frustration I was feeling. The drive is already long as is. Have you ever drove from Pensacola to Texas or vice versa? Now,
I did know that the closures were definitely a possibility, but I counted on GM to be up to date with the latest closures and openings. GM failed.
After all the headache, my husband from afar (he’s in Pensacola) looked up Louisiana’s traffic road maps or something like that. We worked together to figure it out. He was able to see exactly what
roads were open and which ones were closed. With some patience and persistence, I finally made it onto I10 West to head on home to Texas.
I was met with so many obstacles, I wanted to scream. I was pretty close to driving back to Pensacola and waiting for the rain and flooding to subside. But, I was like there has to be a way around
this.
It goes without saying, l need to refresh my map reading skills and road atlas skills. Sometimes technology just won’t cut it. Not only was I lost, but I was confused on my directions when the hubs was trying to give me directions. :D
So, this story ties into having “Patience” and “Persistence” as you are on your journey to live a healthy lifestyle. Or you’re in the process of dropping pounds, giving up soda, drinking less wine, or {insert food item} that you’d like to cut back on.
My patience was
really tried on this trip and your patience as well as mine in the past was tested and tried as I tried to lose weight. You will want to give up -#It’sCalledLife. The important thing is to have some tools in place to help when you want to give up.
Persistence – I stayed the course on this road trip, I wanted to turn around several times. Road
block after road block, but I made it. If I would have given up and went back to Pensacola, I would have to start that long drive all over again.
Just like losing weight – persistence will come in handy! It is hard to change habits and lose some pounds. If it were easy, no one in the world would be out of shape or
overweight.
You will hit many road blocks, and your progress may come to a halt. You may hit a plateau with the scale weight (never only rely on the scale as a measure of progress in the first place) halting – not going down. Guess what? That’s okay because that’s bio feedback. The key is to keep going, even when things get
difficult.
You will miss a workout or have to grab a bite to eat out because that’s life. Or you may eat too much ice cream, but that doesn’t mean that’s the end and you just throw the towel in. You just keep going the next meal or the next day. #BecausePersistence
