Celebrate your successes big or small!

Hi

Celebrate your success, no matter how small. Yep, you read that last sentence right. Celebrate your successes no matter how small they may be. There is nothing wrong with small successes or taking small steps to reach your goals. For example – You got in two walks this week – that’s a success compared to the last few weeks when you didn’t walk. I believe it’s all about the compassion and conviction we give ourselves. We are our own worst enemies, and we can definitely get in our own way. Today, and moving forward, I want you to get out of your own way and celebrate all your successes, no matter how small.

A couple of weeks ago, I talked about accepting compliments with no “buts”, or brushing it off, and the same goes for successes. Same as the compliments, we are quick to minimize our small successes. Why is that? I know for myself, at one time or another, I would minimize them because it wasn’t the end goal or the bigger goal that I set for myself- that feeling of failure crept in. I have since learned, and what I teach, is that all successes, whether small or big should be celebrated.

I work with a lot of women that want to lose weight, and they set a lofty weight loss goal, and when the scale doesn’t move how they want it - that’s it. It’s like they can’t see past it. The goal is usually some 30 - 40 lbs. within a small timeframe. Realistically speaking, that’s a lot of weight to lose quickly, first and foremost. They fail to see the progress they did make over several weeks, because they didn’t hit that exact target weight. Losing weight/fat is not a small feat, especially when you have a lot to lose, so losing any weight or fat is a huge success no matter how small. The real success comes when you can keep it off, or at least maintain plus or minus 5 lbs – but that’s a whole other topic.

On that note, as you know, the scale really is only one measure of progress, and we forget the other successes along the way because we get caught up in the scale weight.

I know from past experience working with people that set these huge weight loss goals that they end up discouraged and defeated. Today, if you have any physique goals, my hope is that you set goals that are realistic and sane. I’m not saying don’t have physique goals but, think about them more realistically because at the end of the day, I don’t want you to feel defeated, but empowered.

The big goals are the ones that tend to trip us up, especially if we don’t meet those goals in the time frame that we set. We tend to get paralyzed by the feelings that we receive when we don’t meet our goals – failure, defeat, I’m a quitter, a loss, etc…

Those downer feelings aren’t the end -  get up and dust your shoulders off. Failing is an opportunity to grow and learn from why it didn’t work. There’s nothing wrong with big goals of course, sometimes we achieve them, and sometimes we don’t. When we do fail at the big goals, look at it in different light, go back to the drawing board – break the goal up into smaller goals or parts, or set a more realistic one. Think of it this way - the bigger the goal upfront the loftier the discouragement will be. Set yourself up for success with smaller goals or tasks.

Set smaller goals or intentions with less moving parts, so to speak. Break the big goal up into pieces. Meet those smaller goals leading up to the big ones. I know we are human and we want some validation at some point along the journey.

I must say setting smaller goals aren’t a cop out, or that your weak, or not to shoot for the moon. You can shoot for the moon with smaller goals and knock them out of the park. Just simply set smaller ones first and then aim for the big ones.

That’s just it, enjoy the journey, trust the process, and celebrate the small successes along the way. Plus, the big goal won’t seem that far away as you conquer the small goals.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read this email. Have a wonderful weekend!

P.S.  Always know that I am here to help you on your journey. I read each and every reply and respond with some tidbit of wisdom or write a blog post to reach other women that may be going through the same things.
