How many diets have you tried, or a quick little fix to drop some weight for an event?
Yesterday, I had an interesting conversation with a friend. She started telling me about how she has been drinking warm lemon water every morning for a while now. I asked her why, and she said that it's helping to keep her small, basically its keeping her weight down.
Hmmm, several thoughts entered my mind. One
being the time that I did a lemon, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup cleanse. Lol, yeah it cleansed me alright. TMI - straight to the toilet I went, and the hunger, don’t get me started. Didn't last on that one too long.
There are several benefits to lemons. Unfortunately, lemons alone aren’t the answer to all your fat loss efforts. I like lemons, so let me just say that. I do enjoy them in water and squeezed onto certain foods, but using them as a fat loss aid is a
quick fix.
Upon further discussion, my friend and I discussed what the rest of her nutrition looked like. She informed me that she cut back on carbs, sweets, (not that she cut them out completely – she just eats less of them now) and makes sure you to eat lots of veggies and protein. All good strategies for fat loss, right?
I addressed the fact that she was eating better and eating less (caloric deficit) is really the reason that she has lost
weight and has kept it off. It’s not exactly the lemon water. Her consistency is why she has been successful, and she has found way of eating that does not hinder her.
The lemon water is not what caused the weight loss. Like I said, there are several benefits to lemon water, however one of them is not weight loss. Now, if all you’re drinking is warm lemon water, sure you’ll lose weight, but also be in a lot of pain, and once you go back to normal eating, any weight lost
will be back.
I didn’t rain down on her parade all the way – if she enjoys drinking lemon water, then keep on, which I told her. I just wanted her to be informed and not just drinking it for a quick fix.
One thing for sure, water itself upon waking does stimulate digestion and rehydrate the body from the overnight sleep – lemon added to it may have a slight added diuretic affect.
As we already know, quick fixes are
exactly that, a fix that doesn’t last long.
I’ve tried several, lost a few scale weight pounds and was hangry! Lol! You see, any cleanse basically promotes water shed, so yes the scale went down, but we still look the same because we did not lose fat. We lost who knows what, to include muscle, which is a no – no when seeking body change. I quickly learned that it was changing and implementing habits, not the next Dr. Oz fix or shiny new diet promising all the
results.
Say no to quick fixes and find all you seek in sustainable measures, such as starting to walk if you’re new to exercise, or eating more veggies, or getting to bed earlier tonight.
Thank you for taking the time to read, have an amazing weekend!
