Keep It Simple

Published: Fri, 02/03/17

Good morning ,

Happy Friday!

Keeping things simple is the key to long-term success. I must point out that simple doesn't mean easy, it may be challenging, but it’s doable.

Changing your lifestyle is hard stuff, right? Or changing your thoughts on diet/nutrition from the all or nothing approach to one that navigates the gray area. Another biggie is changing from what used to work. What used to work, doesn't now. So....

I can remember when I first embarked on my journey many years ago. It was hard at first. Lol, thinking back to how I started. I decided to make the lifestyle change, or so I thought, in the middle of winter when I was stilling living in Grand Rapids, MI. Of all times, right? Guess what I started doing? I began running in the snow, in January of all times. You know the whole New Years resolution thing.

Boy, had I lost my mind! It was cold. Brrr!

Needless to say, that wasn't a very strategic or smart method - didn't do it for very long. Anywho, that's a whole other email.

It's daunting to change or try something new, especially when you've been doing the same things for years. Change isn't an easy thing to swallow at first. Everything in our body resists change because we have been so used to doing things one way or the same way for years.

Gungho right out of the gate when we are embarking on a healthier lifestyle ends very quickly - crash and burn so to speak. Somewhere in the process, we have been led to believe that we have to do all the things and do them all at once.

This phenomenon is one that only works for a small, small group of people. You know, ones that can quit things cold turkey and never look back.

But, for most folks, it takes a bit of time, some adjusting, and just simply placing one foot in front of another, one at a time.

The cool thing is that it's okay. But we as individuals have to be good with it and willing to do it differently.

For example, we have been dieting for years. Diet after diet. Dieting to lose weight. Dieting to fit into a dress for a reunion, or a swimsuit for the summer.

We lose the weight for the events with drastic measures, and once the expiration date comes, we hang up the diet coat. We've reached our final destination, and now we want to let our hair down. We enjoy said event with the foods that we banned for months and in a week or two, maybe a month, we look in the mirror or step on the scale and all the weight is back on plus some.

The cycle continues, but we never get where we want to be.

This above infographic is true to the core.
Why?

Because of Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I used to think, just one more diet. This time it will work. It never did. Not until I hung up the diet coat and the diet mentality.

The simple answer is to do it differently. I can't say I know anyone that loves gaining and losing the same weight over and over or going through the burden and the frustration that diets cause.

It is my mission to shift your mindset to a place of simplicity when it comes to body change.

It's really about being consistent, patience, and trusting the process. There are no secrets or shortcuts to sustainable fat loss or leading a healthy lifestyle.

Where ever you are today on your journey, ask yourself this: Are my methods sustainable, can I do for this life, and is this method enhancing my health and my mindset?

If the above questions are answered with NO, then you know the moral of the story.

Thank you for taking the time to read. If anything resonated with you in this email, let me know, feel free to respond to this email. I love hearing from you. Have a fabulous weekend!

Yours in Health & Strength,
