Good morning
If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.
Pick up right where you left off, ADJUST, and take action!
I took a dose of my own medicine this week. This week I was really sick, actually ended up going to the ER. I am doing much better. Almost 100% as I write this email!
Throughout the week before going to the doc, I had moments that I felt better. I even tried to
go to the gym. My hubby and I had some errands to run. We headed out to Anchorage; we are staying in Wasilla. Wasilla is about 45 minutes......... of Anchorage.
We had plans to get a workout in because I was feeling better, we wanted to check out some campgrounds, and grab some groceries from the Commissary - there's an Airforce Base here.
On the way to the gym, I was feeling better; I was feeling pretty decent that morning as well. I was ready to get back to hitting the iron.
Hmph... got to the gym and my body was like "oh no you don't honey boo-boo kitty", lol! "Not today you won't!" Jeff went in, and I rested in the
truck.
I was bummed, but knew that I still needed to rest. The old me would have went on in and not rested. Ya know, hard to the core, no pain no gain, and work through the sickness. There comes a point when you should not workout while you are sick or
rundown.
Rest should always be the first line of defense in my mind. The workout or the gym is not going anywhere. Especially if you are lifting the things. Walking and low impact activities are fine, depending on how you are feeling, but you should never want to hinder your healing.
Again, all is never lost, unless you operate from
a place of scarcity or an all or nothing mindset.
That brings me to the next point..... If you have truly created a healthy, sane, and sustainable lifestyle then taking off time from gym means nothing detrimental.
As a matter of fact, you probably even welcome "Rest Days" now because you
know what rest does for the body, whether that's because you are sick or that it's time to take a de-load week because you have been crushing all the weights in the gym.
No guilt, no shame, no remorse, or the feeling of all being lost if I didn't get a workout in. NO QUITTING! You want to know something; I haven't worked out since Saturday, July 29 on the side of the highway on the way to
Alaska!
Give this workout a try and let me know how it goes!
I have walked several times since being sick but, nothing high impact. The goal was to heal and feel better - also a form of self-care. Today it's , Friday, August 4th as I write this, I will be getting it in. I will be easing myself back into things, probably resting a lot, and
listening to my body. Going in with the intention of just feeling my muscles work. No expectations, no judgement, just movement, and grace!
The one thing that will always be there for you is the IRON, and it will always treat you right. Strength, health, body awareness, mental and physical growth- plus so much more!
Love this from a friend that reposted my post about this subject:
In case it's hard to read the above caption:
"Love this from @beauty_of_strength ! Why do we have the tendency to put off rest? To push through? When we ignore our body's cry for rest we do so much more harm than good and often harm our
training goals. If you didn't get a lot of sleep last night don't go to 5am boot camp. Stressful time at work? Go for a walk instead of an intense training session. Take a bath, get a massage, go to bed early. Our bodies need rest and that doesn't mean we are giving up on our goals.
Thank you for allowing me to take up
space in your inbox and taking time to reading. I hope this message helps you in more ways than one.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Yours in Strength and Sustainable Health, Xo Candace
P.S. What is your number one
challenge as it pertains to fitness, nutrition, or mindset? Hit reply right to this email and let me know, it's probably one of the many struggles that many women have.
I ask this question to my followers because it helps me create blogs, emails, and Facebook lives to help other women as well. So, with that said, I always appreciate the responses back and I will always respond back with a tidbit of
advice.
