Hi
I thought I'd never be fit, healthy, and in shape. I thought that was for them people over there.
I didn't play sports growing up; I wasn't a fit child. I was bigger and taller than my peers in elementary, middle school, and even high school.
I wasn't athletic either; I was not
picked first. I was always picked last; I was the leftover, because I was the last one left.
I can even remember this one time in high school when I did attempt to play Varsity Sports and during one of the practices we had to run suicides. Suicides are when you sprint to the lines on the Basketball court - back and forth to the start until you do the whole court. Well anyhow, I was always the last
one, and Coach made us keep doing them until we all came back at the same time.
My teammates were yelling at me to come on Candace, but not in a helpful way. I finally made it back with the whole team instead of dead last. I was so happy, that's when I knew that I could do the things, and do what I put my mind to, even when I had no
support.
We are all stronger than we know.
See, I wasn't always fit or in shape. Folks tell me they can't relate to me or that I can't relate to them because I can't possibly understand where they are coming from. I beg to
differ.
I've been there, I felt lost, I've been overweight, I've felt heavy, I've felt lethargic, and I thought I'd never be able to be strong, fit, or fast.
I even went about getting in shape the wrong way when I first started. I've told you before that I started my journey pounding the pavement.
Gosh, that ish hurt, and I also attempted becoming a vegetarian. We often think running is the key to losing weight - nothing wrong with running in itself, if you enjoy it. However it's not the best protocol when it comes to physique change. I've tried the diets (too many to count), as I write this "I have tried diets," heck I even gave Keto a spin - formerly known as the Atkins diet, lol! I forgot about Atkins – many, many years ago, but I remember it like yesterday. I was waiting tables during college, on my feet all day - trying to subside on meat and
fat. It was death, lol!
Everyone I know that has done Atkins has gained all the weight back because for most folks it is not sustainable and it does not fit their lifestyle. Sure, we have to change things in our lifestyle, but the way you eat should work to where you have success, not misery.
Oh, and don't let me forget about diet pills. I was taking them on an empty
stomach in college - Hydroxycut. Really! Remember those?
I felt so sick to my stomach! I remember the first time I took them, I threw up, because there was nothing in my stomach. This was not healthy, nor was it sane or sustainable. Eventually learned my lesson... Not at first though. As you can see, a hard head makes a soft ass. Lol, that’s some old folks saying, right?!
Nothing replaces eating more vegetables, eating less processed food, and training. Nothing, not even supplements. Everything should be in line before you even think about supps, but know this - you don't need it.
I just want you to know: I know where you been, I've been there, and I know where you can go.
If you do what works for you, what works for your lifestyle, what you can do effortlessly, you too can get strong, fit, and feeling good in your skin and that doesn't require a diet with a name, a detox, or a 21 day-quick fix, or a New Year New Me something or the other.
If you want sustainable results, then do what's
right for you. It may take time, and it surely will take patience, but you can get there!
Thank you for being here and listening to my ramblings. If there's anything that resonated with you, please hit reply and let’s talk shop.
Have the best weekend!
Yours in Strength and Health, Xo Candace
