During the days of yo-yo dieting, contest prepping, or just not eating - trying to subsist on dry ass salads, vegetables and meat; I wouldn't touch fruit with a
ten-foot pole. It wasn't pretty!
And when I did have fruit with 1 of my prep coaches, I only got it once a week, and I devoured it like a mad woman. They always say that "Fruit Make You Fat!"
As your reading this, you may have the same thoughts in your mind - fruit has SUGAR, and that's a big NO. Well, it's because of Diet Culture. It's because a lot of diets demonize fruit.
There is nothing inherently bad about Sugar, nor is it addicting - the research doesn't
support it, and furthermore, no one goes around eating plain white pure sugar!
We have been led to believe that sugar, carbs, etc. are evil and that they are bad for us. Diet culture has done a number, haven't they?
We have given so much Power to SUGAR; it's a bit cray cray!
I know a lot of folks disagree about Sugar and I'm not here to debate it. We will have to Agree to
Disagree!
Back to the Fruit cause that's the topic at hand today.
Prior to said Diets and such, I had NO hang-ups about Fruit. I ate it when I wanted,
ate fruits that I liked, and kept it moving.
So, I was still whirling in the Diet Mentality, even though I moved onto a new Coach for contest prep. They had a more Flexible Approach to getting to the stage. It was not
as strict - not strict at all, thinking back; however, I still had, and it reared its head when they put Strawberries for an option on one of my meals, lol!
I laugh now! It was so ridiculous;
they put 250g of Strawberries on my meal plan! I messaged my coach after getting my meal plan and was like are you SURE! Are you sure that I can have Two Hundred and Fifty grams of Strawberries?
They were like YES!
Enjoy! I was so HAPPY; I could have strawberries, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I remember sitting there enjoying every juicy, delicious strawberry bite, lol!
That's how warped I was about fruit.
It's so sad! It was so sad!
I punched
Strawberries into a food app to see what the macro breakdown was and it's, lol, NOTHING, not even a drop in the bucket.
Here the breakdown for 250g Strawberries:
- Calories: 82
- Fat: 0.8g
- Carbs: 20
- Fiber: 5
- Protein: 1.8
Now, you know you need help when you think that Strawberries will make you fat, or that strawberries have too many calories!
Dang diet rules, diet culture, diet mentality, so on and so forth!
There's so much goodness, nutrients, and such in strawberries and in fruit in general!
I said enough was enough!
I wanted to get out of the Diet Mentality, the rules, the yo-yoing, the piss poor relationship with food. I
did, but I mostly did it alone.
You don't have to go it alone, ya know!
