What is your WHY?
Do you really know?!
This week, I want to take you down the WHY path, and the goal/problem-solving route. It’s fun, thought-provoking, and the results can help keep you heading in the direction I think you’d like to go in a BIG way.
I'm willing to bet you're probably struggling with your nutrition and fitness goals because you don't know "WHY" you want to achieve them or "WHY" you're even doing what you're doing, especially if you are miserable.
It’s all about asking yourself “WHY" and digging deeper. Getting into alignment with what you really want and how you're gonna get there!
A lot of women tell me they want to have more energy, lose weight, run a 5K, feel better, lose some inches, fit their clothes better, etc. However, they don't have a real reason of "WHY" they want to do those things.
Those things are all fine; you can have those goals - but WHY? You have to ask better questions.
What is the WHY behind the goal ?
So, let's dive in!
This little exercise is a powerful way to help you uncover solutions to problems – both practical AND motivational! Plus, your answers might surprise you.
For this week’s challenge of sorts, all you need is a notebook and pen (or empty doc on your computer) and a few uninterrupted minutes.
⭐First, write down what you want to achieve.
Maybe you want to lose fat; maybe you want to build muscle and get strong, eat healthier, work out more consistently, etc.
Now comes the fun part…. Just ask why. Why do you want to do that? (Write it down!) Then, ask why AGAIN. Continue for a total of 5 times.
Example - from a client: I want to lose weight/fat...
- Why do I want to lose weight/fat? Because I want to feel good in my clothes, feel strong, and fit.
- Why do I want to fit into my clothes better? Because I feel self-conscious and my clothes aren’t fitting the way they used to, and I’ll feel more confident if I’m comfortable in my clothes.
- Why do I want to feel more confident? Because right now, I feel self conscious about my appearance and it affects my confidence. I want to feel more confident and EMPOWERED! If I feel more confident, I’ll be more outgoing and would go out
with friends more often.
- Why do I want to be more social? I want to feel good about myself when I’m out with friends. I want to have more FUN in my life and develop deeper relationships.
- Why do I want to have more fun and develop deeper relationships? Because I’ve been feeling isolated and a little lonely, and I need a sense of adventure in my life!
When you dig a little deeper- you eventually get to the REAL underlying DESIRE for wanting to lose weight/fat – which actually isn’t about weight loss at all.
It’s all about wanting to feel more confident, connected to others, have more fun, and feel good in your skin. Losing weight to lose weight isn’t the issue – the real issue illustrated above is CONFIDENCE. This is just an example. The body change is the by-product.
However, I want you to know that your LIFE is happening NOW, we only have one LIFE, and ONE BODY. Be kind to it, even if you're not LOVING it at the moment. You can go out and have a good time, hang with your friends, buy a few pieces of clothes that you can fit into right now, while working on your fat loss/health goals.
You are not giving in, because you are showing yourself some self love/self respect in your body RIGHT NOW. You can be a work in progress and a masterpiece at the same time!! Don't ever forget it!
