I hope you are! If you haven't started, there is no time like the present, and it's never too late!
I can't stress the importance of Lifting.
IMO, there is nothing quite like it. Nothing, I mean nothing, compares to the benefits of Strength Training.
And one of those benefits is to ward off Sarcopenia – well, as much as possible.
What is Sarcopenia, you say?
Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle mass as we age.
We have the potential to lose 3-8% percent of our muscle mass after the age of 30.
Is this preventable - YES! An astounding YES!
How?
Through strength training. The research is clear. The research explicitly states that Strength Training is the way to prevent and treat sarcopenia.
We must load the muscle with resistance - either with our body weight - if you’re a beginner, and of course, weights!
Strength training is not only important to prevent muscle loss, it’s also crucial for our metabolism.
When we lose muscle, that’s when our metabolisms decrease, or when we are less active.
Our lowered metabolic rate is a muscle issue, not only an age issue. Sure, our metabolism decrease because of age to a point (not as much folks like to say), but the big thing is a loss of muscle because we aren’t doing anything about it, or we have yo-yo dieted so much.
Yo-yo dieting does a number on our muscle mass btw. And no, dieting or eating low-carb does not speed up your metabolism!
Know that you can still get STRONG, build muscle, and get fit. JUST START today if you already haven’t.
Hit the weights 3-4 times a week, push, pull, hinge, squat, lunge, carry, do some core work, and sprinkle in your cardio! You got this!
One more thing, well, two, lol.
One - If you are in a fat loss phase, continue to lift and challenge yourself so that you keep as much muscle as possible, and don’t blindly slash your calories either.
Two - don’t worry about getting bulky! Worry about muscle loss! That’s the issue.
That’s it for now! I hope you have a great day and week.
Talk Soon! Have a great week!
