How are you today?! I hope all is well!
Let's talk about Motivation...
Ever wonder how some people seem to be so motivated? How they seem to consistently be on track to achieve their goals?
I'll let you in on a little secret - NO ONE is motivated all the time. Motivation has zero to do with consistency.
That motivated look comes from Habits and WORK. They WORK at it…. Every. Single. Day.
Again - they build habits!! They leave short cuts and quick fixes alone because they know that those things are short term with long term consequences.
They don't wait on Motivation to show up. It’s fickle. When it shows up, good, but it when it doesn’t, pull yourself up by the bootstraps and SHOW UP - TAKE ACTION.
Take that ACTION even when you don’t want to! If your health and fitness matters, you will prioritize it, whether you’re motivated or not.
We won't always "Feel like it" and thank goodness for habits, am I right?!
Personally, when I don't feel like it, I rely on the habits that I've built over the years. When I didn't feel like my lower body day last week, which had heavy deadlifts in them, I subbed out the deadlifts, did KB deadlifts, and shortened up the workout. I was able to get a workout in – consistency will beat perfect every time!
I've also switched from 4-5 training sessions a week to 3 days a week in the past.
We have to keep feeding that habit loop for our training and nutrition practices, so that when we just don't feel like it, we have our built habits. We keep feeding the habit loop by doing SOMETHING! Something is always better than NOTHING in those unmotivated times, or " I don't feel like it" times!
Folks also surround themselves with inspiring music, books, people that help them level up, and ideas that challenge their self-limiting beliefs... and keep laser-focused on the things that are most important to them in life.
One of my favorite quotes is: “No human ever became interesting by not failing. The more you fail and recover and improve, the better you are as a person. Ever meet someone who’s ALWAYS had EVERYTHING work out for them with ZERO struggle? They usually have the depth of a puddle. Or they don’t exist.
