You’re not lazy; you know that, right?!
I don’t believe that it’s a lack of laziness.
The desire is there, but your actions aren't there.
The belief in yourself is not there.
You don’t enjoy it. << This is a big thing.
You’re looking at working out as a means to an end. << I find this to be the thing that doesn’t keep fitness as a part of someone's lifestyle - keep folks continuing to do it.
It may be something else entirely?!
These are just a few reasons that I wanted to touch upon out of many.
Anywhoodle...
I ran into a lady who says she used to go to the gym, but now she doesn’t. She also bought up her age - that it’s too late.
What does age have to do with it?
As the conversation moved forward, she began to say that nothing ever changed.
I informed her of some things that would move the dial and that she is not doomed. And of course, you’re never too old, or it’s never too late.
We didn’t dive into the specifics of why things didn’t change or why she didn’t get any progress.
What I can tell you from this conversation is that a lot of women give up and I hate that. I hate that you think you have to be perfect, you’re too old, that you have to ditch the foods that you love, and workout like a maniac.
There's also the the fact that a lot of women just do random workouts with no direction. Random workouts lead to random results! We tend to be led that we must confuse our muscles - we don't, that we must be dragging ourselves out the gym and be sore AF for it to have been an effective workout. This is so far from the truth.
There is a better way!
One, you have to enjoy what you’re doing on some level. Yes, getting started with working out can suck at first, but not for long. Heck, you ain’t use to it. It’s important to meet yourself where you are!
DO WHAT YOU ENJOY! That's where you start even if it's not lifting the things! Of course, I want you to Lift at some point because I know how good it is for you - it goes beyond the aesthetic piece!
Once you get competent in what you’re doing, then you’ll be just fine! You'll love it, you'll be so excited to lift!
So, if you’re only working out to burn calories or just to lose weight or to lose weight for an event, it won’t last long - this is a means to end.
Sure, it’s motivating at first, but it’s superficial. And as we know, motivation and willpower are fickle!
The burnout is real. You can only carry on with extreme measures for so long.
You’ll also need to be eating in a way that is enjoyable, that leaves you satisfied, and simple enough to adhere to. It may not be easy, but with persistence and the right plan for you, you’ll be gold, and make the progress that you desire!
Last, but not least if you’re aimlessly wandering around the gym with no plan, then you won’t see any change or make any progress.
I’ll say it once; I’ll say it over and over again if you are doing random workouts, random exercises, you will get random results. Probably no results at all.
My STRONG friend, you are not lazy. You’re just not doing things that will work for YOU.
And, might I add, change is hard. So, give yourself some grace and take it one day, one meal, one training session at a time!
Whatcha think?
I’d be happy to help you create a plan that you enjoy, that isn’t miserable, and keep it sustainable.
