I hope this email finds you well.
I am doing pretty well over here in my corner of the world. I've been soaking up the warmer weather here in Florida.
It has warmed up really nice this week. When Jeff and I got into town last week from Michigan, I was still wearing the winter coat that I got for the cold Michigan weather.
So, let's hop into today's email.
Tell me, does this situation sound familiar?
You decided to change up some things, "clean up" your diet, change some things, etc - aka get rid of things or remove whole foods groups.
Maybe it's certain foods (or even food groups), or maybe it's "activities" you decide to STOP doing (happy hour, TV binges, etc.).
Basically, it's all about things you want to DENY yourself! Ban, if you will.
What if you flipped that script around and looked at it as UPGRADING your life instead?
Adding to your life versus omitting, ya know, going from 0 to 100!
This little mindset hack can turn a negative outlook into an uplifting and positive one that helps you create STRONG habits you will stick with and actually ENJOY!
For example:
- Instead of cutting all the carbs out, thinking that's the answer to "cleaning up your diet," how about upgrading to more nutrient-dense ones like potatoes - any variety, rice, whole grains, legumes, quinoa, couscous, to name a few!
- Instead of forcing yourself to go to the gym 7 days a week, how about starting with a fitness activity that you love or enjoy or maybe starting with 2-3 days a week of strength training?
- Instead of trying to change everything all at once, how about making small changes? Change one thing at a time!
- Instead of exercising to earn or burn food, how about exercising to feel STRONG, capable, and empowered?
It's all about finding ways to change up what you're doing NOW for something that actually adds value to your life and helps you move forward.
Plus … and this is super important:
If you're simply changing/replacing one activity for another, it means that you already have a habit in place! That makes it so much easier to stick to it over the long haul.
