Hey, hey ! Happy Thursday!
I recently saw this quote, and it resonated with my soul. It's something I've been saying in some form or fashion for years now.
STRENGTH training has been shown to REVERSE the aging process. So, why all the CARDIO?
~ Dr. John Rusin
So, yes, we age, we will get older, that's inevitable! But, what we can do is keep our body STRONG and resilient. We have control over that.
You see, Strength Training is the main dish - the entree if you will, and cardio is the side dish. Strength training gives back in dividends in comparison to what cardio can do for the body.
Don't say to me, but Candace, cardio is good for the heart! I know that, but LIFTING works our heart muscle too.
Nothing compares to what the iron does for the body. PERIODT!!
Study after study has proven this over and over.
Strength training will create a resilient, strong body as you age… muscle, strong bones - increased bone mineral density, strong joints, prevents sarcopenia, to name a few. Also, did you know that lifting weights may have cognitive benefits as we age too?!
Your health, wellness, fitness is like your retirement account. It's your body's 401K plan!
The consistent investments you make NOW – by eating a balanced nutrient-dense plate, lifting the things regularly, taking care of your skin/eyes/teeth, not smoking, etc. – pay off big-time deep into the future!
And the BEST part is, it's never too late to start making those investments in your personal health and wellness account....
- Working out creates a strong base of muscle (and bone!) that will keep you strong as you get older … plus of course, it keeps your heart & body healthy!
- Getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night builds a healthier and more focused brain.
- Finding ways to manage stress keeps your brain and body happy.
- Eating nutrient-dense most of the time will provide your body with the nutrients it needs to function optimally.
- Building a social network keeps you feeling connected, directly linking your feelings of wellness and well-being.
And so much more!
This means the training plan you are following TODAY has the potential to pay off decades from now... are you lifting the things now, STRONG friend?
And are you eating your fruits - 2-3 servings a day and veggies - 3-4 servings a day?!
It's all about being CONSISTENT with your habits over time!
Here's a challenge for you:
Come up with THREE actions you can commit to this month that can help you feel better NOW – and into the future!
Some ideas:
- Taking a walk after lunch
- Drink an extra cup of water
- Hitting the gym for at least three strength training workouts this week
- Going to sleep 30 minutes earlier this week.
- Eat undistracted, eat slowly and mindfully so that you can enjoy your meal.
- Get 20-30 minutes of sunshine a day!
Basically... What can you do TODAY that your FUTURE YOU will thank you for?
Let me know!
Have a great day & amazing rest of your week!
