Hey, hey ! Happy Fri-yay! I hope you are doing well on this Friday? What's in store for you this weekend?
Jeff and I are out hanging out in the sticks, lol. Well, this little town of Mineola, TX, outside of Tyler, TX. We just wrapped up getting our feet wet with a Motorhome. We've been saying for a while, since we started the RV life, that we wanted to see what it would be like living in a Motorhome.
It worked out well because our 5th Wheel was in the shop for 3 days to get our roof repaired.
It turns out we like our 5th Wheel better; we won't be moving to a motorhome just yet, even though Jeff was fantasizing about how much better it would be.
There are pros and cons to both, that's for sure. In each rig, you give up something to get something. We'll be releasing a video soon comparing the two, so if you are interested, make sure you are following our YouTube Channel here!
Anywho just wanted to give you a quick life update!
So, let's get into how to be a badass at 75!
I don't know about you, but I want to be mobile, STRONG, and capable when I hit my senior years!
How about you?
, have you ever heard that saying, "It's not just the years in your life, but the life in your years"?
Let's visualize a little "what-if" situations.
Start here: Imagine you can fast-forward to the age of 75 when you're spending a day at the beach!
What are you doing while you're at the beach? Are you fishing, body surfing/boogie boarding, learning to sail, swimming, and/or walking the shore?
Or are you sitting under an umbrella in a tall lawn chair (because getting in and out of the short ones is almost impossible!), watching your family or friends enjoy the fun?
Next: Let's pop over to your home, where you are unloading the car from your weekly grocery trip.
Can you carry it all in 1-2 trips? Or do you have to make several trips and use a railing to help you up and down the stairs?
Lastly, are you able to hike, pick up and/or play with your grandkids?
Really, anything that you are doing now activity or physical wise, I'm pretty sure you want to be able to do those when you are 75!
Right now, are you able to easily do all the things you want to be able to at 75?
If you can, awesome, and be sure to build a lifestyle that continues to support that.
Keep the term "use it or lose it" in mind.
But, if doing those things is getting harder all of the time, it's time to ramp up your strength gains!
1. Research shows that you lose 3% to 8% of your muscle mass every decade once you turn 30, and that rate can skyrocket to up to 15% after the age of 60.
2. The kind of muscles that are most susceptible to loss are "type 2," which help you generate force and power.
Those are the muscles that assist with fun beach activities like swimming, body surfing/boogie boarding, hiking, lifting things off shelves. But, even more importantly, they also are the ones you need to kick in to help catch yourself to avoid falling down!
This is why it is SO IMPORTANT to stay ahead of your fitness and strength as you age.
→ It's so much easier to KEEP/MAINTAIN muscle as you age if you are actively do something about it and build more too. But, it's not too late if you aren't lifting consistently. You can start now! Again, it's never too late!
Here's a quick list of how you can do that:
- Have active hobbies.
- Walk Daily!
- Lift the things regularly!
- Alternate sit to stand if you have a desk job regularly.
- Find ways to sneak extra movement into your day.
It will pay off now and for decades to come!
